Wang’s report won applause from the audience. Precision medicine is a new medical concept and a new therapy model, heralding a new era of medical treatment.
Prof. Wang Gang, Director of Gynecology Department, The First People’s Hospital of Foshan, gave a report on “Techniques and Thoughts of the Resection of Ovarian Tumor Focus in Laparoscopic Surgery”. He said: the resection of pelvic tumor focus is a key part of the staged operation and cytoreductive surgery for treating ovarian cancer and the resection must be complete and thorough; it’s surgically effective to remove uterine, adnexal and pelvic peritoneal tumors completely by making full use of peritoneal space.
Prof. Li Xiaomao, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, delivered a speech on the ovarian cancer prevention and control and on the HPV vaccine. According to the estimates of China Cancer Statistical Report 2015, in 2015 alone, China had about 98,900 new cases of ovarian cancer, resulting in about 30,500 deaths, making it the second most deadly tumor for Chinese women aged 33 to 44. The ovarian cancer is the only cancer whose causes are certain and the HPV vaccine has proved effective in its prevention and control. Since the approval of the HPV vaccine, China has evolved its integrated prevention and control strategy against the ovarian cancer from secondary prevention by regular screening of women of appropriate age to primary prevention by vaccinating women of appropriate age.
Prof. Sun Xiaoli from Guangdong Maternal and Child Health Hospital shared her thoughts on special-site ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is a common gynecological disease among women of childbearing age and a common acute abdomen. As smooth water runs deep, this seemingly innocuous disease, once neglected, might pose serious threats to health. The diagnosis and treatment of ectopic pregnancy is a must-have skill required for every obstetrician and gynecologist. Prof. Sun shared with the audience her valuable experience and insights by summarizing different cases of ectopic pregnancy.
Prof. Fang Huiying from the Conde S. Januário General Hospital in Macao shared clinical cases to explain different clinical therapies for patients who desire fertility preservation and those who don’t. She recommended for patients with endometriosis infertility examination and treatment, as well as long-protocol IVF and GnRHa treatment before frozen embryo transfer, and for patients suffering from severe dysmenorrhea or menorrhagia, surgical treatment. She stressed that endometriosis is a chronic recurrent disease requiring long-term management and consideration should be given to the optimal time of surgery and post-surgery medications. Based on literature survey, she then explained the clinical effects and safety of Dienogest.
Prof. Yang Yuebo from The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University introduced the latest progress in the treatment of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) and explained that, mainly caused by HPV infection, VAIN often goes unnoticed at the onset, has multiple focuses, and is thus easy to be misdiagnosed and relapse, and that colposcopy is the most important way for its diagnosis. Prof. Yang then suggested that its clinical diagnosis and treatment should be customized based on the patient’s age, the scope and degree of focus, the patient’s immune status, and followed by long-term follow-up after treatment.
Prof. Chen Jianguo from Guangdong General Hospital gave a detailed account of the latest progress in the diagnosis and treatment of endometrial cancer (EC). EC, in most cases endometrial-derived adenocarcinoma, is the 6th most common female cancer and the 14th most deadly cancer worldwide. Prof. Chen introduced in detail its clinical diagnosis and proposed to individualize the treatment based on the patient’s age, health status, the existence of combinations, the severity of disease and desire for fertility preservation.
Dr. DJ Hamblin-Brown, UFH Vice President of Medical Affairs, based on his medical practice experience overseas, introduced the UK mode about midwife care at the perinatal stage. Prof. Tan Jianping of obstetrics from The Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University spoke on intrauterine infection and preterm birth and pointed out that the occurrence and development of intrauterine infection involves the activation and metabolism of various cytokines, transcription factors and apoptosis regulatory factors, and that the study of biomarkers such as amniotic fluid, cervical secretion and maternal serum has shed more light on the pathogenesis of intrauterine infection.
Prof. Wang Zilian, Director of Obstetrics Department, The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, shared cases about standardized reading of electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) graphs and proposed methods of precision judgment to better guide clinical practice.
Prof. Li Yingtao, Director of Obstetrics Department, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, gave a lecture on pregnancy care for low-risk groups, explaining how to provide pregnancy care for low-risk women before and during pregnancy and avoid maternal and neonatal complications and adverse pregnancy. As pregnant women of advanced maternal age continue to explode in China, we should better prepare obstetricians for the growing risk of pregnancy complications.
Prof. Huang Yaobin, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, UFH Guangzhou, introduced, with illustrations, the experience and techniques of removing uterine myoma in cesarean section. The takeaway of his report is: remove the myoma outside the uterine incision first, then choose the myoma surface incision with care – by using the squeeze technique for the better, then dissection should be clearly layered, and the wound should be closed skillfully with the baseball sewing method and the tourniquet.
